Adam Scime performs "The Opera Game" for speaking pianist (left hand only) - world premiere

  • Canadian Music Centre 20 Saint Joseph Street Toronto, ON, M4Y 1J9 Canada (map)

My friend Adam Scime - a wonderful bassist, pianist and composer - broke his right hand. But Adam turned lemons into an exquisite fountain of lemonade, by commissioning seven Canadian composers - including me - to write new left-hand piano pieces for him to premiere this June 5 at the Canadian Music Centre in Toronto.

In my piece “The Opera Game” Adam talks and plays his way through translations of a famous chess game into music, as it becomes increasingly detailed and dramatic.

Other composers in the lineup include:

CHRISTOPHER BUTTERFIELD

TAYLOR BROOK

ANNA HOSTMAN

EMILIE LEBEL

ADAM SHERKIN

NICK STORRING

CHRISTINA VOLPINI

Adam Sherkin will also be playing a set up two-hand piano music by these and other Canadian composers.
