Although I am trained as a composer, most
of the work that I do now falls equally into musicand theatre
- and everywhere in between.
AlexEddington.com is meant to present my
work to webfarers in a way that places equal weight on both disciplines, while
revealing that the border between them is always indistinct, and sometimes
nonexistent.
I have organized my Past into these two broad
categories as best as possible, with plenty of cross-referencing.
In
sections pertaining to my Present and Future I have allowed music and theatre to
frolic non-hierarchically together...
Enjoy!
NEWS
June 20, 2008 Holy carpe diem! Unexpected (very) good news!
much to my surprise and excitement, I was chosen for the Urjo
Kareda Residency for emerging theatre artists at Tarragon Theatre next
season! I will be doing two things: 1) shadowing the
composer/sound designers for three music-heavy productions; 2) writing
a new play (about elephants!) under the supervision of the house
dramaturge and Artistic Director Richard Rose. Tarragon has a
tremendous multi-decade commitment to the development of new Canadian
theatre work - this is a big foot in a big door for me, and I am thrilled and still a little stunned.
and the press is already starting to flit around webspace. I have re-postedREVIEWS - and PREVIEWSfor your cyberjoyment.

January 20, 2008 Publicity is in early, partial swing... Two new ways to follow the progress of Old Growth:
Alison was just in Toronto for a weekend of story development and
tech-talk. We have an arc. We have an ending! And
pretty much the moment she left, I started hammering out some of
the short scenes and monologues that will eventually come together to
make an hour-long show.
December 4, 2007 First bout of rehearsals
I was just in Ottawa for about five days of proto-rehearsals (character-work and musical exploration sans script)
with Aura (co-star) and Alison (dramaturge/director). Very
successful - more than I thought possible when the story and the
characters are still so shaky! Aura is, no surprise, wonderful.
*you can follow our rehearsal process over at the ol' Old Growth BLOG*
