The Fugue Code takes place over a single weekend (July 6 and 7, 2007) in an unnamed British city, first at the University and then in the world’s largest Gothic Cathedral.

the Composer: Augusta Miriam Barnes

Known for her experimental computer music, Aggie was helping to bring J. S. Bach’s vision for the acoustically-purest-possible-pipe organ to life – until she is kidnapped by an ancient and ruthless organization calling itself the S.M.W.  Her disappearance inadvertently sets The Fugue Code in motion...

the Musicologist: Dr. Jerome Sinclair

As the Head of Music Theory at the University, the witty but distractable Professor Sinclair has organized a symposium for the world community of Bach scholars who have come to witness the most important event in the history of Western Music: the consecration of the Bach Memorial Organ at the Cathedral.  But his Saturday afternoon lecture is interrupted by a panicked phone call...

the Organist: Nigel Barnes

Jerome’s oldest friend, Nigel will be the first to perform on the Bach Organ – but even his duties as Cathedral organist haven't allowed him to see past the heavy veil of secrecy surrounding the organ's construction.  His practical, routine-driven demeanour devastated by his wife’s kidnapping, Nigel soon discovers that there is more to the Organ than he thought...

the Conductor: Antonius Speck

The world’s leading interpreter of Bach’s cantatas, the pan-Continental maestro has arrived for the Symposium, but knows more about the Organ – and Aggie’s kidnappers – than he lets on.  Severe and self-centred, Antonius is a major cause of friction among our Code-solvers.  Meanwhile, he is developing his own plan to one-up the SMW...

the Singer: Peter Potter

Peter only graduated from the University’s music programme four years ago, but he’s already made headway toward being Europe’s foremost Bach tenor.  As it turns out, his golden voice attracted more than just professional advice from his “collaborator”: Antonius Speck!  Peter may seem confused by life, but his connection to The Fugue Code can’t be merely a coincidence...

the Dean of Arts

The Dean knows more about Administration than he does about Bach – and when the SMW approached him about the Bach Organ, he (and the University department under his care) saw dollar signs.  But the Dean may be the only person who deals directly with the SMW – not that that exempts him from their vile scheme...

the Organ Builder

He’s been building organs for 42 years – but he’s never seen anything like this!  Sliding pipes, perfect acoustics, decorative artefacts culled from the Bach estate...and a patron with bizarre demands for secrecy.  But one night, the Organ Builder sees something he shouldn’t...

 the Bishop

Oblivious to the real significance of the Organ sitting in his Cathedral, the Bishop has his own mission from God: to convince his Church and the world to see Bach in an entirely new way...

the President of the Ladies' Auxiliary Committee for the Classic Music

Entrusted with arranging the catering for the largest event the City has seen since the 1962 Royal Visit, this small-time dictator will not rest until the Cathedral is a culinary temple to the patron saint of Ladies’ Auxiliary Committees, Johann Sebastian Bach...

Who else will show up when Bach’s greatest work is reawoken?
