 Acky-Made presents...

the FUGUE C O D E

press release

BACH is BACK!   From the Baroque mind of award-winning composer/playwright/performer Alex Eddington (WOOL) comes a new comedy-thriller of apocalyptic proportions!  This is not an st

ract musical form: this is slapstick comedy!"

On the eve of the most important event in the history of Western music – the unveiling of a remarkable pipe organ invented by Johann Sebastian Bach but not built until now – an experimental Composer is kidnapped by a mysterious and ancient musicological organization.  As the mystery deepens, a quartet of Bach experts – an Organist, a Musicologist, a Conductor and a Singer – find themselves reluctantly drawn together by a strange plot involving Bach Fugues, Baroque riddles, Bach’s history-shunned second wife Anna Magdalena, and an increasingly bizarre organ...

Can they solve THE FUGUE CODE before the last note of the Well-Tempered Clavier????

Equal parts funny and thrilling, The Fugue Code is fast-paced, highly physical 60 minutes that pulls out all the stops, twisting and turning like a Bach fugue and culminating in an explosive supernatural showdown in the world’s largest Gothic Cathedral...

 It’s edge-of-your-seat musicology!

In a performance inspired by his training as a composer, Toronto-born writer/performer Alex Eddington brings twelve pointed characters to contrapuntal life – four of which are often onstage simultaneously!  With the help of young and energetic Ottawa-based director/dramaturge/designer Alison Williams, musically-delivered text blends with physical theatre in this hilarious, chilling and thought-provoking comedy about composer-worship, betrayal, and the love of music.

The show will also feature original organ music and unique sound design by Alex Eddington.

The Fugue Code is appearing at the Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Vancouver Fringe Festivals this summer.
